Howdy Neighbor: Kim Collom
July was a big month for Fayetteville resident Kim Collom - she's celebrating the release of her self-titled debut EP. The U of A graduate's five-song album of Country music originals is currently available on iTunes. Kim had an Album Release Concert at the Garden Room on Dickson Street on Thursday, July 7th at 7:00 P.M. The event was a great success. She performed with musicians from Apex School of Music. Saturday Night Live did a light-hearted tribute to Fayetteville, Arkansas and Southern rock, at the end of its latest episode. The song may be destined to become a Fayetteville classic. Jazz in Bloom
The Northwest Arkansas Jazz Society held its annual Jazz in Bloom event Sunday, April 24 at the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks. The annual event is a celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month. The nine piece Fayetteville Jazz Collective performed under the big top on the garden patio, surrounded by flowers in full bloom. Beer and wine was provided by Liquor World. Mount Kessler Gala
The Fayetteville Natural Heritage Association held its 2nd Annual Kessler Gala & Old-Tyme Medicine Show this past Sunday, April 24th. The event featured food and fiddle tunes at the Pratt Place Barn on West Markham Road. Fayetteville Mayor Lionel Jordan spoke about the importance of Earth Day and Mount Kessler. Fayetteville Public Education Foundation Celebration
The Fayetteville Public Education Foundation held its 16th Annual Celebration of Excellence on Monday, April 25th. The event awards outstanding teachers and students. It took place at the Arkansas Air and Military Museum at Drake Field in Fayetteville. 65 teachers were recognized during the banquet. The foundation also awarded $186,533 in grants to schools and teachers who came up with innovative and creative projects that fall outside the school district's operating budget.
